Investigation of cyber-attack on Polish rail network
The Polish Press Agency (PAP) reports a cyber attack on the Polish rail network in the north-west of the country in Szczecin.
A BBC article reports: “Hackers broke into railway frequencies to disrupt traffic in the north-west of the country overnight, the Polish Press Agency (PAP) reported on Saturday.
The signals were interspersed with recording of Russia’s national anthem and a speech by President Vladimir Putin, the report says.”
Risks that in the past were evaluated as hypothetical scenarios in risk assessments seem to be becoming materialised risks in the new reality we face in Europe.
Attacks such as this on critical infrastructure in the European Union should be a wake-up call to all decision makers in the relevant sectors. As a society we need to invest more in the prevention and resilience of the infrastructure that keeps our lives running.
